Weipa is a remote mining town situated 504klms North/West of Cairns. It houses the largest bauxite deposit in the world. The population of Weipa numbers 3,500 most being employees of the Camalco Mine, Government workers and support people for it's bauxite operations.
The coastal location of this mining town is magnificent and fishing enthusiasts converge on Weipa to enjoy the abundance of the marine life of the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Getting there is either by 4WD via the Peninsular Developement Road or a short 1 1/2 hour flight from Cairns to Weipa via Qantaslink.
